About Us

You can find us in West Street in Stoke sub Hamdon, one of the lovely hamstone villages in South Somerset. Our Centre, formerly a Methodist church, was purchased in 2018 following a successful Community Right to Bid by our Parish Council on behalf of the village, and is a wonderful example of people power, energy and vision.

Until that point the younger generation in our village had nowhere permanent to meet and call their own.  Our Centre has now undergone a major refurbishment to bring it up to modern day standards and is now ready to extend the range of activities on offer.

Our Centre is managed on a daily basis by a user-led charity ("a CIO")  called Hamdon Youth & Family Centre Trust. Under the terms of the purchase  from the Methodist Church, the Parish Council granted a formal Lease to the charity.  A Service Management Agreement is in place between the two organisations to set out joint expectations and responsibilities. Hire of the Centre is restricted to children's activities only under the Methodist Trust rules governing the sale, although adults may attend any performances or events, and mums and dads in Stoke are actively encouraged to become volunteers.

The younger ones in our village now have their own venue where they can enjoy recreational activities, learn skills and social values to help them into adulthood and this is something that has been long overdue in Stoke. We were awarded the Charity Excellence Framework Quality Award in 2022.
